I haven’t posted since last year so first let me say HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my readers!
I’ve been super busy these past few weeks. I am in the process of moving, I’ve been working full time working with teens, my 3 year old has been keeping me busy (and insane). Did I mention I’m also 7 months pregnant?!
But I’m still here! I haven’t had much time to post new recipes and food posts, however I have been doing a lot of DIY (Do.It.Yourself) projects lately. Since I am moving to a new home, I have been on the lookout searching for furniture pieces. Look, between you and I, I’m not millionaire and even if I was I’d probably still be frugal, so I don’t have a lot of money to spend on furniture. So where’s the best place to go to find great deals….CRAIGSLIST! I know, I know I wouldn’t exactly want to shop for second hand furniture online however you’d be surprised how many people are giving away practically brand new things away for cheap or FREE!
Yes, it’s true. I’ve seen Ikea couches, end tables, cabinets, bedroom sets, etc all for free. People with money love to buy new things. When they do they need to make room so they need to get rid of the old for the new.
Today I am going to show you how I reupholstered these 4 dining room chairs for practically under $25.
First, I searched on Craiglist under the ‘For Sale’ tab and there is a section for free items. Someone was actually giving away these nice dining room chairs…FOR FREE
Okay they weren’t the cleanest but I automatically saw the potential in these beautiful iron chairs! I removed the original seating (they were filthy) and washed the padding underneath. I then started to clean the chairs. It took me 2 hours to clean them at first. I let them sit out overnight then I cleaned them again the next day.
Next was to spray paint them.
I went to my local art & crafts store (Michael’s) and bought some spray paint $6.99 each per can. However I had a 50% off coupon so it was $3.49 a can. Took about 2 cans to spray paint the 4 chairs. I used Krylon in Black Gloss.
Next was to find fabric. I originally went to Walmart, however they were charging about $8 a yard for fabric. Hmm, not exactly in my budget so I went to Goodwill. I found this beautiful table cloth for $6.
I was also in need of a heavy duty stapler so I went back to Michael’s and purchased a stapler for my project.
The original price was $18.49, but again I had a 50% off coupon so it was $9.25. All I did was cut and staple. And I think the chairs came out beautiful!
4 Iron Dining Room Chairs = Free
Spray Paint $3.49 per can (2 cans) = $6.98
Tablecloth = $6
Heavy Duty Stapler = $9.25
TOTAL COST $22.23
For all my frugal and DIY people out there I will be posting more of these (along with my food recipes). Stay tuned!!
