Easy Homemade Pasta

After a very loooong hiatus I am back with easy recipes for the upcoming holiday season! I live in Texas so the weather just dropped and it’s finally starting to feel like Fall! When I think of comfort food or warm dishes I immediately think of pasta. My kids love it and its easy to make so I am going to share an easy recipe for making your very own pasta at home! Soooo much better than store bought! YUMMY! Let’s get started.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Cups AP Flour (All Purpose)
  • 3 eggs
  • Tablespoon of Olive Oil 
  • 1/2 Teaspoon salt
  • Tools (Pasta machine or wooden rolling pin) If you don’t have either I’ve seen people roll out the dough using a wine bottle lol
  • Saran Wrap (to wrap the dough while it rests)
  • Knife (to cut the dough into pasta)

 

On a clean surface (I used my kitchen table and used parchment paper) pour the 2 cups of flour and make a well. Crack the eggs inside the well of the flour. Add the salt and olive oil. (I used a specialty salt. Rosemary salt. Feel free to use whatever you want).

Using a fork  or your hands, slowly start to mix together the eggs and flour. SLOWLY.  A ball of dough will start to form (if too dry feel free to use a little sprinkle of water).

Knead the dough for about 5-10 minutes until a nice smooth round ball. Don’t worry if you do not use all the flour.

When the ball of dough has become nice and smooth take your saran and wrap the dough and let rest for a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour.

Next, you will cut the dough into four equal pieces. Like picture below.

Take the rest and put in the fridge. Take one of the pieces and now its time to roll out the dough. This is the step where you will use your pasta machine or roll out the dough by hand using a rolling pin. I do not own a pasta machine (yet) so I always roll out by hand. I did not take pictures during these steps but I found these pictures online to help give you a visual guide.

Dough should be rolled out paper thin.  When this is done you need to roll up dough and then start to slice it. I was going for Pappardelle style pasta. So cut as thick or thin as you’d like.

You should have a pot of SALTED boiling water going. Place the pasta in the water and let cook for about 5 minutes.  MAKE SURE YOUR PASTA DOES NOT STICK TOGETHER!

If you are making a meat sauce, after the pasta has finished cooking in the boiling water you are going to let it cook with the meat sauce as well for a bit.

I was making a seafood pasta cream sauce, however I forgot white wine so I had to improvise on my sauce but I let my noodles cook with the sauce a bit as well. Below is the finished product of my meal.
